Sports Massage
Sports massage involves the manipulation of soft tissue to prevent and treat soft tissue injuries and muscle imbalances. Sports massage incorporates advanced stretching techniques, deep frictions, neuromuscular and muscle energy techniques to remove adhesions, scar tissue and realign muscle fibers. This type of massage along with an appropriate rehabilitation programme restores muscles to optimum working order thus enhancing athletic and general body performance.
Regular sports massage is also an essential part of sports training program to prevent injuries, enhance & maintain muscle performance and speed up recovery.
Deep Tissue / Remedial Massage
A specialized, remedial / deep tissue massage is used to treat, muscle problems, occupational disorders old injuries and general aches & pains. Remedial/ deep tissue massage is excellent in correcting dysfunctional muscles thus improving range of movement, posture & mobility. This type of massage is highly effective in treating tight or short muscles, acute and chronic muscle conditions. This massage uses deep preesue with slower strokes and positional release techniques to release tension and alleviate pain in the muscles. Neuromuscular technique, frictions & deep stroking are also incorporated in the treatment to help loosen muscle fibers, remove scar tissue, adhesions & fibrous tissue which might be present as a result of an injury or trauma.
Therapeutic / Relaxation Massage
Physical or emotional stress, injury or poor posture can affect the muscular-skeletal system causing imbalances leading to pain or improper functioning. This treatment incorporates gentle manipulation of soft tissue along with various massage techniques to ease muscle tension and restore balance, which enhances the body’s ability to heal itself. A perfect tonic to relax, ease tension, loosen muscles, improve circulation, stimulate the immune, lymphatic and nervous systems to rebalance and harmonize the body & mind, to promote and enhance general state of well-being.
Injury Treatment & Rehabilitation
Acombination of sports massage and ultrasound waves are used in treating acute and chronic injuries. The use of Ultra-high frequency sound waves brings about changes in injured and damaged tissue at a cellular level: to reduce pain, inflammation, muscle spasms and induce tissue repair.

Trigger Point Massage
Combined positioning and specific finger or thumb pressure into trigger/tender points in muscle and connective tissue, to reduce the hypersensitivity, muscle spasms and referred pain patterns that characterize the point. Left untreated, such trigger/tender points often lead to restricted and painful movement of entire body regions.
Trigger point therapy is often combined with sports, remedial, and deep tissue massage treatments to treat active trigger points.


Meet Our Massage Therapist
Selina Rifkin, L.M.T., M.S. is a graduate of Temple University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. In 1998 she graduated from the Downeast School of Massage in Maine. Since then, she has studied Active Isolated Stretching, and Cranio-Sacral therapy.
She has published articles in Massage Therapy Journal, been a health columnist for the Harpswell Anchor, and published
The Referral Guide for Complementary Care, a book that describes 25 different healing modalities. She is licensed as a massage therapist in both Maine and Connecticut, but currently spends most of her time in Connecticut.
In 2006 she completed her Masters program in Nutrition with a focus on traditional foods, and the work of Weston A. Price. She believes in a holistic approach to healing and is happy to be able to offer her clients a personalized approach that addresses individual needs.
